New National Standards to Raise Industry Access Threshold for Stainless Steel Wire Rope Mesh from September 2026

The new national standard GB 5725-2025 Safety Nets will come into mandatory force on September 1, 2026, alongside the updated national standard Steel Wire Rope Mesh for Engineering, reshaping the production and acceptance criteria of the stainless steel wire rope mesh industry.

The revised standards have tightened core technical indicators significantly, adding mandatory tests including salt spray resistance, dynamic fatigue resistance and impact strength. They impose strict specifications on steel wire coating, corrosion resistance of fasteners and dimensional tolerances, and crack down on prevalent market malpractices such as substituting low-nickel steel for 304 stainless steel, replacing 316L with 304 material, reducing wire diameter and applying thin plastic coatings to cut corners.

After the implementation of the new standards, complete material inspection and fatigue performance test reports will be mandatory for bidding of projects involving municipal bridges, slope protection, building curtain walls and overhead fall arrest systems. Industry insiders point out that the new rules will phase out low-end and substandard production capacity. Small and medium-sized workshops will face pressure to upgrade production processes and testing equipment, while leading manufacturers with full testing qualifications and automated production lines will gain greater competitive edges, pushing the industry into an era of standardized quality competition.
